Woman Kybella

“I’ve always taken good care of myself – making sure to stay in shape – but the fullness under my chin was something I was born with. My whole family has it and makes me feel less attractive and overweight.”

David, Kybella

“I recently saw a photo of myself in profile and was really frustrated with the area under my chin.
 I workout, eat well, am
in relatively good shape, but I can’t seem to lose
the fat under my chin.”

Finally a treatment for the “Double Chin.”

Living Well Skin is excited to offer patients Kybella®, the first and only FDA-approved injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness.

If you’re not happy with your loose and saggy chin, you’re not alone. According to a recent survey by the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, almost 70% of men and women are “bothered by excess fat under the chin/neck.”

What causes our “double chin”? The main culprits are aging, genetics and weight gain. For many men and women, no amount of diet or exercise changes the sagging contours of the double chin. Unfortunately, our double chins are one of the main features that can make us look older and heavier than we actually are.

Kybella® has been proven to change the contour of your neck, diminishing this area. A series of two to four 15-20 minute treatments (usually two months apart) can destroy fat cells in the chin/neck area. Once your aesthetic goal is achieved, results are expected to be long lasting.

Kybella is made of deoxycholic acid, which is a stomach acid. When injected, the deoxycholic acid breaks down fat cells in the treated area.

What is Submental Fullness?

Submental fullness, commonly referred to as “double chin”, is an aesthetic condition brought upon by factors such as age, weight gain and genetics.  Kybella  is used to diminish and contour this fat pocket located just behind the chin, in an otherwise healthy, fit person.  With treatment, this fat pocket, or “double chin” is reduced and contoured. Our providers tailor Kybella treatments and number of injections to each individual patient’s submental fat distribution and treatment goals. Once the aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA®, retreatment is not expected.

How does Kybella® work?

KYBELLA® is a non-human and non-animal formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.  When injected into subcutaneous fat, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment with KYBELLA® is not expected.

How are Kybella® injections administered?

Once you are assessed and determined to be a candidate for Kybella® treatment, the area to be treated is mapped out using a skin marking grid. Next, the area is iced for approximately 5 minutes. The treatment area is then injected with Kybella® within the mapped area using a small needle. The entire injection process typically takes less than 15 minutes.

Are there side effects from Kybella® treatment?

Typical side effects are mild to moderate swelling and pain, bruising, numbness, redness and formation of small areas of firmness. We encourage our patients to ice frequently and use oral analgesics as needed.
